Nicola Berry
My practice is consumed by the paradoxes of existence. My concerns around the subjective and immanent are manifested in work which includes sound, the performative, drawing and painting. My approach is holistic and research led, the process sometimes folding inwards to obliterate itself. I use eclectic references to question and subvert the consumption of cultural production and am interested in working with representations of fact and fiction, exploring the labour and value of these situations and transactions.
I also turn this critical analysis to my own work to question the authenticity of what an artist produces. The constant challenge of questioning this ambivalence is what hinders and drives me.
