Images of formal gardens, garden architecture and more recently pleasure gardens form the basis of this series of 7 thinned-oil paintings on smooth gessoed, elliptical boards. Inspiration stems from Frangonard's The Swing and Ian McEwan's The Cement Garden. These two very opposing depictions of gardens direct the search for the perfect image, one that is frivolous, opulent and lush whilst perversely bleak, man-made yet completely devoid of humanity.
