‘Adam Mercer’s practice is concerned with the retelling of events, not as linear narrative, but as an imminent stream of consciousness’ - Sarah Holly Sayeed, 2011
‘Adam Mercer’s performance style is that of the self proclaimed polymath, he parodies the stereotype of the man in a position of authority through exaggerated hypocrisies and self delusion’ - Emma Jane Weaver, 2011
I am a contemporary folk orator, I tell stories of the recent past and mid twentieth century history. I deal with themes of the role of the person in historical and societal settings. This work is realised in the form of a series of tours and talks. The information explored in the research and execution of these performances is gathered in object form in a scattergun collection to be found in a museum of self.
Improvisational talk, Hackney Downs train station
Performance. 2011.
