My work is formed largely around the idea of the preservation and loss of history and memory. In this particular project I have been aiming to show these themes through architecture. As I have been looking at the difference between derelict buildings and the meticulously kept properties owned by the National Trust and other similar organisations and why only some are save and nursed back to their former glory whilst others are just left to rot and eventually be demolished.

In response to this I began to travel around London and other parts of England in search of both derelict and historical properties to photograph. I began to build up an extensive collection of images of both exteriors and interiors of derelict buildings and well cared for historical sites. Soon after, I began comparing them on both an aesthetical and historical level which led me to a final collection which I separated into two parts, preserved and derelict.
